JoAn is not only a strong believer in giving back to the civic, school, church and professional organizations that have shaped her life and career, she relishes her volunteer activities in her community. Besides mentoring many young women in dentistry and business, she donates 10% of whatever she earns in speaking fees through pro bono presentations for organizations such as Youth Leadership Programs and Career Fairs. Most summers she participates in her local Vacation Bible School as a teacher, cook, and most recently, as the registrar. She also serves on a single campus site-based committee for Caldwell Independent School District and chairs the Teacher Appreciation Committee. Her volunteer activities extend beyond her own county. In Bryan-College Station she serves on the Junior League’s Community Advisory Board and actively raises funds for the Texas A & M Ice Hockey Team (yes, there is ice hockey in Texas!). In addition, she volunteers for the Back Pack Program, part of the National Program for Food Banks in America, affiliated w/ Feeding America, www.feedingamerica.org. JoAn thoroughly enjoys spending time with family and friends and being a true “Hockey Mom” and sports fan. The mother of one son who is the apple of her eye, she is also a bonus mother of three girls. She has two great son-in-laws and three beautiful grandsons. “I have had the pleasure of sharing the podium with JoAn on several occasions. Her professionalism and open friendly style make her an excellent teacher and facilitator. She knows dentistry inside out and is willing to share her knowledge for the benefit of our most noble profession. It seems that everyone around her blossoms and grows.”
